Un poéme de Charles Beaudelaire

Toi qui, comme un coup de couteau,
Dans mon coeur plaintif es entrée;
Toi qui, forte comme un troupeau
De démons, vins, folle et parée,

De mon esprit humilié
Faire ton lit et ton domaine;
— Infâme à qui je suis lié
Comme le forçat à la chaîne,

Comme au jeu le joueur têtu,
Comme à la bouteille l'ivrogne,
Comme aux vermines la charogne
— Maudite, maudite sois-tu!

Ohhhhh....nooooo Canada...!!!!

 My initial reaction to all of the "goings on" with our Canadian government this week was originally one of horror, which gradually changed to one of the utmost amusement that would accompany watching a bunch of rats in a barrel. This reminds me of a company I worked for years ago that was going through financial difficulty.   Instead of pooling together to change things around, people were more preoccupied with "doing in " their office rivals  This company, which was once a powerhouse in its industry, is still in existence; however a mere shell of it's previous self.    Stephane Dion's shoddy "hour late" address to the nation tape, and his crazy rants in the commons, in no way make him appear "Prime Ministerial" ;just a man reacting to economic fears and trying to "take down" his rival.   Jack Layton may appear calmer; but his motives are all the same.  As for Gilles Duceppe - he's just like a kid with a shotgun ready fire into the barrel of fighting rats after he's had a little fun with them.

I never in my life have even considered voting conservative.  When I voted for the first time, at 18 - it was liberal, remembering a story I heard from my Grandfather, who was working on a local road as a young man, the day before an election.  A Tory government was voted in, and the next day, all liberal sympathizers that had been working on that road were without jobs.   My grandfather had voted Conservative - but after that became liberal.  I was a member of the young Liberals while a student at The University of Western Ontario.  The odd election I voted NDP - but never, ever , Conservative - in fact I always had trouble saying the word "conservative".     I had the utmost admiration for Pierre Trudeau.  In fact one day about 22 years ago, while living in Montreal, I was temping in the office building of his law firm, and took the elevator with him.   I was very taken by those water-blue eyes that seemed to penetrate right through me.  Trudeau would never have attempted to take power in the same way as Stephane Dion and Jack Layton.   He was a much cooler head, and would have waited for a more opportune time.   Mais, Monsieur, Dion, vous n'êtes pas un "Pierre Trudeau"!      I can' believe  I'm about to say this - but I really feel that Stephan Harper is the one best suited to run the country at this moment.  Mind you, he did "goof" by trying to clip the opposition's "electoral wings" with the proposed cuts to election budget - but he did learn his lesson, and now wants to get on track and deal with the problems at hand - namely the economy and the hemorrhaging of jobs taking place at this time.

It's been a while....

I have had a very busy weekend.  Saturday, I went to see the screening of the 1919 movie "Anne of Green Gables."    The actual movie mysteriously disappeared many years ago; however a couple of "Anne affectionados", Jack and Linda Hutton, who own a Lucy Maude Montgomery museum in Bala, purhased the movie stills on Ebay' as well as the original sheet music for the movie, and compiled a powerpoint presentation, which has been shown all over.     The "Hollywoodization" of a Classic Canadian tale had the  audience chuckling.  In one scene, a mob descends upon Green Gables, as Anne, the school marm has been wrongfully accused of breaking the arm of Josie Pye's bratty little brother.    Anne, who is caring for an ailing Marilla Cuthburt hears the mob outside and reaches for her trusty shotgun.

Sunday, I attended the Native pow-wow at the Rogers dome in Toronto.  I absolutely loved the colours, the costumes, the sounds.  At one point all the dancers and drums combined sounded just like thunder- an incredible experience!!   The announcer of the dance competition had everyone in stiches, singing "Wrinkle, wrinkle, pow-wow style, will you tell me what age you are.", ( to the tune of twinkle twinkle, of course)  as  some of the elderly dance competitors filed onto the field.   I have posted some pics, and videos - with more to be uploaded in the next while.
